Jeep Renegade Gets Major Tech and Hybrid Updates

Jeep is preparing a refreshed version of the Renegade compact SUV, and recent spy shots from Brazil offer the first detailed look at what's coming. While the Renegade has been dropped from the European lineup, it continues to evolve in South America with meaningful improvements both inside and under the hood.

Fresh Interior With Larger Display

One of the most noticeable changes in the updated Renegade is inside the cabin. Test images show a significantly larger infotainment screen than before, bringing the SUV's tech package closer to what you'd expect in newer Jeep models. The interior trim also appears lighter and more contemporary, hinting at an overall push toward a more refined feel.

This upgrade follows a broader trend in the Renegade lineup. Earlier updates added bigger digital clusters and more responsive multimedia screens in other markets, improving ease of use and connectivity for drivers.

Hybrid Powertrain Choices

Under the hood, Jeep is expanding the Renegade's powertrain options. The traditional 1.3-liter turbocharged engine will stick around in the Sport version, offering solid performance with around in the Sport version, offering solid performance with 176 horsepower and flexibility for gasoline or ethanol or ethanol where relevant.

More interesting is the introduction of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system across higher trims like Altitude, Longitude, and Sahara. This setup uses two electric motors, one replacing the alternator and starter and another assisting the regular engine. Together they boost power and torque modestly while helping cut fuel use and emissions - all without major redesigns to the SUV's mechanical layout.

The Willys variant keeps its focus on rugged capability with all-wheel drive and retains conventional engine hardware paired to a nine-speed automatic for drivers who want more off-road prowess.

Subtle Design Changes

On the outside, changes are more evolutionary than revolutionary. The refreshed Renegade features updated front bumpers, a refined grille, new headlights with distinctive lighting signatures, and fresh wheel designs. The rear end also sees a revised bumper and slightly reworked taillights, giving the SUV a modern but familiar look.

Future Possibilities

Although Jeep hasn't confirmed a return of the Renegade to Europe yet, shifts in Stellantis' product strategy mean it's not entirely off the table. A next-generation Renegade is already expected by late 2028, and decisions made now could influence whether the model heads back to global markets.
